National Singles Awareness Day-15 February 2018

February 15, 2018 By Janet McNish

It’s a humorous holiday to celebrate being single, to share with single friends, to send each other presents or even order yourself some flowers. On this day many people wear green, as it is the complementary opposite of red. Another popular option is an absence of colour (black), to symbolize an absence of celebration. One increasingly popular activity is to travel to Brazil and witness the Brazilian Carnival. The trip, coupled with the fact that Brazil doesn’t celebrate Valentine’s Day on February 14, but in June, provides a temporary getaway from the neon pink of Valentine’s holiday in the Western culture, by simply substituting it with another celebration.

Some who celebrate Singles Awareness Day just want to remind romantic couples that they don’t need to be in a relationship to celebrate life and that the key to being happy is being able to be happy with yourself. Contrary to popular misconceptions, Singles Awareness Day is not about self-pity but rather a chance to announce to the world that you are single and happy to be so.

If for any reason you are NOT HAPPY to be single today, or you want to get ready for a great relationship, please join me on Saturday 17th February for the Strategies for Effective Dating & Relationships Click the link for details…

TESTIMONIALS
  • The workshop teaching was very good, so were the structure of session, materials, venue, and refreshments. (Stylist)
  • I loved that we are able to relate to our life experiences and reflect upon where we met our past partners and how we were treated. Not to ignore the red flags, which I did feel and hear but didn’t do anything to address them back then, but now with this knowledge am about to assert myself. (Administrator)
  • I decided to get some counseling after yet another rejection from a Christian guy propelled me into the arms of someone I knew wasn’t good for me; I was sick of being single! Janet helped me by challenging my thinking and attitude towards dating, helping to restore my self-worth, validating my feelings and giving me the tools I needed to date men and have a successful relationship. Soon after I finished my counseling sessions I made the decision to go on dates. The first person I met turned out to be my husband-to-be. It was a God thing, a divine appointment if you like, but only because I was ready to pursue it. If I hadn’t have done the counseling beforehand and learned from Janet and the authors she introduced me to, we probably wouldn’t be together  I would have missed my opportunity. I encourage any single girl who wants to be married to explore Janet’s Effective Dating Strategies it worked for me! (Professional Musician)

Sexual Abuse – Sister2Sister update.

November 12, 2017 By Janet McNish

People often say that your life is ruined if you’ve experienced sexual abuse. THIS IS A LIE!!
With the right support, resources and commitment to the process, you really can not just survive – but thrive! The people below have also thrived and made a difference to others. You too can learn to thrive!

I had a wonderful evening as a keynote speaker and meeting people in person at Sister2Sister – on Friday 22nd September. Hosted by the lovely Marcia Jones. Sharing testimonies of healing and hope. I shared part of my story and taught the group about some of the core issues of abuse, shame, anger, powerlessness, betrayal, forgiveness. This was followed by a Q&A session.

Despite the subject matter, the vibe was supportive, friendly and upbeat. We enjoyed powerful performance poetry from S’healing who has found her voice after years of silence. We connected well, we cried, we laughed and all inspired by each other’s contributions.

Some feedback on the evening:
“Thank you for sharing…”
“It was a surprisingly uplifting evening…”
“I’ve never met anyone who’s overcome so much – and you are so grounded.”
“Thanks for the chocolates and lollipops – a vital part of the ministry”
“We are all here to help each other…”
I’d like to commend Marcia Jones for consistently creating a safe, non-judgemental environment at the Sister 2 Sister events. These events provide true hope and routes to restoration. The next event is on Friday 24th November at 7.30pm. For details of topics and guests etc, please email: [email protected]

Sexual Abuse-LIVE Presentation Q&A-Janet McNish-Friday 22 September 7.30

September 19, 2017 By Janet McNish

1 in 4 girls will experience sexual abuse by the age 16. There is often revictimization throughout her life. There is a reason for this and it can be stopped.

Most sexual abuse isn’t reported, detected or prosecuted. Most children don’t tell anyone that they’re being sexually abused. It’s a crime that is usually only witnessed by the abuser and the victim.

Have you experienced any type of unwanted sexual contact at any stage of your life? Has a colleague, friend or relative disclosed that they’ve experienced sexual abuse of some kind? Something happened…are you not sure whether it was or not? But you know you felt bad…

Benefits of attending:

  • Break out of isolation and meet others who understand

  • Gain information to help overcome the past

  • Feel supported by both professionals and other survivors

  • Learn about some of the core issues of abuse; Shame, anger, forgiveness

  • Learn some strategies for the future

Also, we will share details of resources to facilitate your or your sister’s healing process. REGISTER AT [email protected]

This event does not contain any graphic details of abuse. Nor will you have to speak or participate if you don’t want to. You are welcome to simply attend and receive. Please bring a friend. I look forward to meeting you.
